Workshop: The Role of International Tribunals and Advisory Opinions in Navigating the Climate Emergency

In line with WYCJ’s Asia program, titled 'Series of Workshops in Asian Universities,' we partnered with the University of Cebu Law School’s Green Legal Clinic in the Philippines.

On August 17th, we organized a workshop titled 'The Role of International Tribunals and Advisory Opinions in Navigating the Climate Emergency,' engaging law students from the University of Cebu Law School. WYCJ’s Asia front convener, Nicole Ponce, conducted the workshop in collaboration with the university’s legal clinic.

As we approach the ICJ oral hearings in December 2024, the Asia front has been focused on youth outreach and university partnerships to raise awareness about the significance of the wave of Advisory Opinions before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.

This workshop was a valuable opportunity to build capacity among the world’s youth and expand our reach and connections. More importantly, it helped bring important developments from the international arena to the domestic stage, where they can take root and lead to tangible change.
