Being the change we need to see has never been more crucial and necessary as it proved to be over this past few weeks. In recapping the month of October as we move closer to COP28 and the deadline for Written Submissions, we had the pleasure of closely following The Barbados Youth Climate Action Summit & Expo 2023 and the Regional Conference of Youth Caribbean 2023 in conjunction with The Ashley Lashley Foundation and YME Bahamas & Cat Island Conservation Institute respectively and honestly, we left with a more meaningful perspective.
Upon being tasked with the question, “Who isn’t in the room”, and being able to really see and understand the depth of the answer, we have developed a whole new understanding of meaningful Caribbean youth collaboration. We are not as connected as we need to be but, we have adopted the perspective and tenacity needed to work on righting so many wrongs our region has had to accept for decades.
We are fighting for our lives, and we will survive, despite the odds. Special thanks to Ashley Lashley, Nikita Shiel-Rolle, Alyssa White, Marjahn Finlayson, Dr. Walteria Tucker-Rolle, Lauren Ritchie and the numerous other team members that worked together tirelessly to pull this off.
Though we still need to answer the question “who isn’t in the room” with action, this obstacle gives us the opportunity to work on inclusivity across the region and with various organizations.
As we shift full gears into the official launch of the Caribbean Front of the World’s Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ), all the while working on acquiring written submissions from across Caribbean in support of the ICJAO, we will continue to strive to make the difference in allocating the much needed support and accessibility to our region as our generation continues to be the battle cry for future generations.
